John CarasikThe John S. Carasik Scholarship Fund
Application for Scholarship - Deadline is May 1, 2008.

The John S. Carasik Scholarship Fund is offered to US citizens, preferably Clan members, who would go to Oban, Scotland to assist museum staff with the MacDougall Collection at Dunollie Castle or to the Isle of Lismore to help with the new Lismore Museum.  There are two scholarships offered for up to $1000 apiece.   This will be an annual scholarship with money first available in 2007.

The objective of this scholarship is to preserve clan history and culture while giving volunteers a first hand knowledge of our rich Scottish heritage. They will assist museum staff in researching, preserving and displaying historical artifacts.  This scholarship will help defray the costs to students who show an interest in MacDougall and McCallum clan history and are willing to spend one week working on the Clan projects.

There is an ongoing need for volunteers at the Isle of Lismore Museum to research Clan history in the context of museum artifacts and recording oral history; to photograph and record townships on the Isle of Lismore; and to study and make connections between Lismore and the New World.

The committee is looking for candidates who are adaptable, enthusiastic, have good work habits and a positive attitude.  Applicants should be adults 18 years of age or older.

In approximately 500 words discuss your educational background and goals, as well as your Clan interest or connection.  Show examples that demonstrate your special skills, volunteer experiences, leadership qualities, extra curricular activities, and any other qualities you would like to share with the committee.  We will require a written report on your experience that will be placed on the website upon your return.  Deadline for applications is May 1, 2008.

This Fund is established in memory of John S. Carasik who was an avid Scottish history fan and an enthusiastic supporter of the preservation of Gylen Castle in his short but fulfilling life.
